michmash/eddie Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Hi all, firstly as this is my first post (not a good start in the technical area) my name is Ben. I have just bought a galaxy with the 2.3 petrol engine, under load it hesitates and is slighly juddery under acceleration. I have plugged it into a diagnostics reader and it displays the fault code P1072 (system rich, bank 1). I have no idea where to start with this one, has anyone had any experience with this, or is it a common fault? I have considered changing the coil, leads and plugs but i do not want to shell out money if this is not the problem. any help would be greatly appreciated Ben Quote

sparky Paul Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Sounds like an ignition problem as you suspect, lambda sensor is detecting a fuel rich exhaust, which indicates over fuelling, or misfiring. Given your other symptoms, I would guess misfiring. If you are no evidence that the spark plugs have been changed recently, then that's the place to start. The plugs must be changed every 40,000 miles, they are well worn out by then and will start giving problems. At a pinch to get you away, you can regap, but you will see that the iridium tips on the plugs are burnt away after covering this sort of mileage, and they will not last long after re-gapping. The next weakness is the coil packs, the easiest method to diagnose is by substituting a known good unit. There's a couple of different arrangements, but the two under the centre rocker cover lid are particularly prone to failure. Quote
